Also present was Barra O Briain representing our patron, the VEC. The meeting lasted an hour and a half and our case was made comprehensively. Progress Update
We can now confirm that a meeting between our committee and the Department of Education has been set for June 24th in Tullamore. The CEO of the CCVEC, Barra O'Briain, has been working with us and highlighting the Project with the Department of Education since we first selected the CCVEC as our Patron. Barra, who will accompany us to the meeting, is very confident the school will open its doors in September 2009.
As you are by now aware the Minister of Education and Science has changed in the recent Government reshuffle and we now have Minister Batt O'Keeffe as our new Minister of Education. Minister Batt O'Keeffe served this Electoral area for approximately 20 years and was elected time and time again by the people of Cork South Central. We wish him all the best in his new position.
The offical list of enrolments for the Gaelcholáiste is now running at 432 names and is increasing every day. This outlines the request and demand of parents in the local area to have the option of an Education through the medium of Irish at secondary level.
Our website is now up at http://www.gaelcholaistecarrigaline.net and running and we must say that it is a credit to all involved. This website has been setup by committed parents of the already enroled students and special credit must be given to Ewan Chalmers for his time and dedication in maintaining and updating the site regularly. Please feel free to log on for regular updates and information. If you have any suggestions as to how the webpage can be enhanced please feel free to contact us.
Téimid go dtí an chruinniú seo le dóchas agus muinín, an Ghaelcholáiste abú!

Update
As you might be aware, from local Papers and Press Releases, the GaelCholaiste Charrig Ui Leighin project is moving along at a steady pace. Since our last update we have selected our Patron for the GaelCholaiste and have decided to nominate the Cork County VEC. After recent discussions with Barra O Briain, CEO of the CC VEC, he has indicated that they would be delighted and excited in acting as Patron for the new school and in dealing with the Department of Education on our behalf.
To progress to the next stage, a Submission has to be made to the Department of Education and the Minister Mary Hanafin, highlighting our request for School Status for the GaelCholaiste for Carrigaline. This Submission is being drafted at present and should be with the Department in the coming weeks.
We have also met with the Locals County Councilors to outline our intentions and to ask for there support for the project and as expected we have received a very positive response from all contacted. We have also met with Minister Micheal Martin and have also received a very positive response for our proposal.
The work has also continued with the Sub-groups which were setup to deal with the issues and opportunities that arise. The Publicity, Communication and Enrolment group have been hard at work contacting the schools within the catchment area of the GaelCholaiste, to continue promoting the new GaelCholaiste and enroling new students.
If there are any questions or queries please do not hesitate to contact us.

Steering Group Setup
We are now at the stage of setting up a Steering Group who will look at the next steps of this Quest, to make 'Gael Cholaiste Charrig Ui Leighin' a living structure. Within this Group we are looking for people who feel that they would have the ability and interest to deal with the opportunities ahead.
If you think you can help please let one of the below mentioned know or you can just e-mail your interest and we will contact you. We hope to have the first meeting on Wednesday next the 6th of Feb 2008.
In the future we will also be setting up Sub groups to look at other topics, e.g. marketing, finance, publicity, property, that will need the input of Parents of those children who wish to attend the Gael Cholaiste. We will outline this in future E-mails to all.
Again many thanks to all for your support so far and may it be a worth while achievement.
